Have you ever used ultimate vs home premium? Basically ultimate vista gives you more languages, moving desktop backgrounds and disk encryption which is outclassed by numerous free alternatives. Windows 7 has one decent feature with professional some people might want, xp emulation. That's about it though and last time I checked snow leopard didn't emulate OS 9."As the sales numbers for netbooks have proven over and over again, the speed/memory wars are over. You can dwell on how much "faster" your CPU is all you want, but to the normal person, it doesn't matter any more"You're right, the average budget PC is more than adequate for most people. But the Mac mini is not the average budget PC, it's much much slower. I was at fry's the other day and saw a Q8400 4gb ram 750GB hard drive desktop. The closest the mac mini gets is less than half the hard drive space with half the processing power for 650 dollars MORE. So while hardware specs matter less and less for the average pc user, the mac mini lags behind in 2007. Maybe in 2 years it will have 2009 specs.Lowering the price is a good way to increase your market share, but guess what? 93% of computers today are sold with windows installed. Piracy won't affect that. The upgrade from vista to windows 7 is 120 and was half off for 2 months. The upgrade from tiger to leopard was 100 dollars I believe, apple releases their software at lower price points more frequently than windows. Apple makes money on hardware and windows makes more money on software. You've obviously never used ultimate, if you don't use japanese, english and swahili at the same time, or use a looped video as your desktop background you wouldn't notice the difference. Your argument about more money being made even if you charge 1/10 the price is silly. I look forward to seeing apple charge 1 dollar for each album and 10 cents a song.
A majority of businesses SHOULD use Windows, because a majority of businesses are not tech companies, nor do they have access to hire well versed IT staff.Anyone can be a Windows admin providing Help Desk support; that's just about the most entry level job we have left after sending phone support jobs over seas.
Even the majority of Tech companies use Windows. That's why we have all them fancy softwares and OSX's software library and hardware compatibility is pitiful in comparison.
Existing Intel mac, christ looking at this little thread all you fanboys are digging us down when (some) of us are just being honest about how they're both potential great deals.
