macworld.com — There were no Apple ads during the Superbowl, this is the next opportunity to start a new campaign with a big audience. From MediaWeek: ABC on Friday said it has sold out its Feb 25 telecast of the 79th annual Academy Awards, and while the network would not release a dollar amount, sources said 30-second ad spots sold for about $1.7 million

Young people are main demographic for the Oscars actually, broomett, I don't know what research you did, but since I work with a company who does all the research 90% of the people are age 18-26. Also, one of the reasons young people watch more is because anyone who lives in los angeles (about 10x larger than new york) probably works for a film studio, or knows someone that does, and therefore here watching the Oscars is just something you do to support your friends and family who worked on the production of such and such. For example if your movie wins an award, and you were just a set builder, the studio usually throws a party, gives out bonuses, and generally makes a huge deal about it.Also since Steve Jobs is the majority share holder in Disney, who owns ABC, I'm guessing he probably got the commercial for discount.

The idiotic thing is: the summary says "there was nothing at the super bowl, oscars are the next big chance apple might take". With this verdict, the headline obviously has to make it a fact: "Apple to advertise iPhone during Oscars".What a f**k is this? What is this pulled-out-of-the-arse speculation doing on the front page?

There will be no direct advertisement for the iPhone during the Oscars. But some of my friends in the industry say that when Al Gore accepts his Oscar for "An Inconvenient Truth" he will whip out an iPhone and press a button and all of a sudden global warming will decrease by 1 degree Fahrenheit. You can not buy advertisement like that!
