The company had commenced operations in April and hired about 30 people for its subsidiary, Apple Services India Pvt Ltd. The employees will be given 2 months pay as a severence package. This could equal about 1000-5000$ based on salaries in bangalore.

AppleCare has had outsourced centers in India for a few years now. Apparently, Apple was in the process of converting their outsourced centers into real, Apple-owned and Apple-run centers, and then got cold feet and killed the whole kaboodle, or some such.(Several people have pointed to an article detailing Apple's involvement with another company in India, HCL. From the context of the article, though, it sounds like HCL is providing sales and support for the domestic Indian market, not internationally outsourced phone support)

You got to be liveing in Bangalore to understand the kind of stress these MNCs are causing the city. Bangalore lacks in infrastructure and security.
