appleinsider.com — "The next generation of Apple Computer's iPod nano digital music player may dip into iPod mini's wardrobe, AppleInsider has learned. In an effort to reduce the player's susceptibility to scratches, Apple has been experimenting with aluminum anodized enclosures similar to those used in the company's iPod mini digital music players."

Apple should employ TDK's DURABIS technology on the screen...if a full-sized, $5 DVD-R can have it, a $249 DAP should have it on it's tiny screen. DURABIS info:http://www.durabis.com/en/tec00200.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durabis

I actually have a little system:iPod, camera (with soft case), and cash in left pocket; Keys, pocketknife, headphones, and change in the other. It's kinda a habit I've started because I hate those nano cases that collect lint and don't slide out of your pocket as easily. No major scratches to this day :)

Uh, a few would. The ones who note the obvious: It's scratches on the SCREEN that matter, not the rest of the thing. Is the screen going to be transparent aluminum, Scotty?Duh.

I love my iPod. I went through MANY other players trying to avoid the high cost of the iPod. I ended up going back to it anyway. That being said, for as much as it costs and with as high quality as a lot of the Apple stuff I have seen, you would think they would invest more in finding a suitable material for the screen that would resist scratching. I for one would *gladly* pay a premium for it! PS. Before people start saying "get a screen protector, case, etc. I have them already! That's not the point. I would like to keep the aesthetics of the design the way it is without having to resort to that is what I'm getting at. I would pay a premium for it too.

I guess I did post in the wrong place, but a touch screen iPod is a great idea (for people who wash their hands) and I know lots of people who will be picking one up, should Apple build such a unit. Watching movies (especially wide screen) on the current iPod screen is actually the stupid idea. A complete waste of time! ..... Well anyway, have a nice day! Grrrrr
