networkworld.com — Over half the software security fixes this month are actually in or part of open source software (OSS) packages... Whether or not it's just a necessary thing to do in order to keep OS X secure, there are some significant benefits to Apple's use of open source and Mac OS X being built on BSD.

Apple's kernel isn't Mach. It's XNU, which is a hybrid of XNU and BSD.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XNU

Linus openly says HFS+ is crap without understanding why Apple has to keep it until they FIX that mainframe ZFS thing to be usable on desktop, ALL of their userbase. As saying "All"- I mean DTP, Video, Science, End user, starbucks communities and their needs. They are also bitching about "case insensitive" while it is a single f**king drop down menu in disk utility to make a drive case sensitive or even UFS, the NeXT filesystem. That is how Apple made the most popular desktop Unix. By giving people choice. If SJobs didn't give a heck to Linus, Linus tries so hard to prove his decision. If you want "advanced developer thing which does the real thing", you just format your startup or data drives as "case sensitive", voila, your issue is fixed. Or you say "who gives a heck to Cocoa?", you install Darwin, the real thing on UFS. Or you install your own thing, Linux.

Doesn't PC users have enough open source unmaintained junk options? Do we truly want Apple to go chapter 11 or become only "iTunes/iPhone vendor"? Apple makes hell of money over machine and OS sales.

If you hack your iPod... Why are you looking for support from Apple on it?

"KDE clearly find some value in WebKit, otherwise they won't bother with it would they?"Did I ever say that Webkit was worthless? Let's go over this again... I have said:"KHTML is here to stay, at least for the time being," and "KHTML is STILL going to be the default."Not once did I say that webkit is worthless. Personally, I think it would be a good idea to move to webkit in order to minimise duplicated effort (but note again that this wouldn't have been necessary if Apple had done what they should have in the first place, which is to simply have asked the KDE guys if they could add their own stuff to the KHTML source)."I'll digg down your reply BTW like you did mine, despite being a statement of fact, cheers."Well that's very mature of you . I didn't digg down your last comment, but I'm going to digg this one down because I'd really, really like to block you now, as you clearly don't know what you're talking about.
