Dual boot == complete vulnerability to Windows secuirty holesParallels is a much better solution... it may not plug all of Windows holes when running in a virtual environment, but it's many orders of magnitude better than leaving your Mac's hard derive vulnerable to Windows malware by booting into Windows w/o OSX86.
Yeah, running that OS X image in a VMWare session is a VERY poor way to run it.I think most Dell laptops are capable of booting the patched 10.4.4 iMac installer that's floating around, but it does require a fair bit of technical knowhow and time.On the other hand, installing Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper in a Parallels session on Mac OS X is simple enough a 2 year could do it.
For those who say that Apple is a hardware company I call bulls**t. What about the Intel switch when it was said that "the heart of a mac is the OS" (roughly quoted). However, this doesn't mean that Apple is a software company either. They are a SOLUTIONS company. Apple's goal is to make the complete package of hardware, OS and software that will work together hand-in-hand to get tasks done without fuss. You can't separate the two, so don't expect Apple to get out of the hardware or software business anytime soon. If one dies so does the other.
Thanks for digging me -12, but I don't see what the news value is here. Boot Camp and Parallels are different products. One is for rebooting into another OS, the other is for running parallel in a virtual machine. This has been on Apple's page for a long time, and is not weird or special at all that they are mentioning Parallels' product. Nor does it prove that it will be included in 10.5.(Okay now digg me -500.)
I just bought an imac.. I updated my software and firmware... TodaY i downloaded and ran bootcamp, but it wouldn't let me.. It keeps saying update firmware.Has anybody tried installing Bootcamp since the announcement of Parallels on the apple site?Hopefully I'm just doing something wrong... but i don't think i amI have 1.0 Imac Smc Firmware and all my apple software is up to date..when i rrun bootcamp assistant it says: Bootcamp cannot be used, please update your firmware before using setup assistant.
