Apple fans expect Leopard to take OS style and functionality to a new level. For the die-hards a new OS X can't fail so this dream is as good as a reality.Then again, John Romero promised that Daikatana would redefine the first-person shooter and look what we actually got...

Apple makes good money from their proprietary hardware. Separating the OS from the system would significantly decrease their profits because Dell and the like would be able to make their own systems, giving Apple only the nominal fee for the OEM copies of the OS.
