computerworld.com — Are backup a bore, well not anymore. The goal set for Apple's engineers in designing Time Machine was to create a backup technology that requires little or no configuration, performs backups automatically and invisibly, and makes restoring files from those backups as simple and intuitive as humanly possible. And boy does Apple deliver!

Yes, I do. And plugging in an external hard drive is not equivalent to upgrading RAM. It's NOT a matter of "hardware setup," it's a matter of taking the drive out of its box, plugging it into a power outlet, and plugging the cable into your Mac.

The fact it took you so long to explain what windows does and had to name so many different things is proof that system is a bit s**t.Time Machine, plug a drive in and when you need it press the clock. Even in your email app etclol! let me just find my massive outlook mailbox file and then right click select properties change to previous versions and guess which version my message is stored in

Leopard is s**tty, but Time Machine makes it astonishingly s**tty. I think they called it time machine because it will instantly become the process that takes the most CPU time on your computer. How about some options about when to back up? I love the control panel, it has a huge area where they simply report how they have chosen to make it work: Time machine keeps: Hourly backups for the past... etc etc. What if I don't want hourly backups? Why would I not want hourly backups you ask? Well, because I don't want to sit in front of my machine with the CPU pegged, fan running and all my disks hammering away when I am trying to get something else done. If you like load averages of over 2.5 (like 3.8) - fire up Time Machine!
