Maybe as soon as Verizon switches to GSM based UTMS instead of the red headed stepchild CDMA technology. Apple would never bother with a CDMA phone because:1. They would have to rewrite the baseband software for CDMA technology, create a new board with a separate production run and support two branches of iPhone firmware for a meagre increase in market share.2. Apple would face countless complaints from clueless American tourists with a Verizon iPhone that stopped working outside of the continental United states. The rest of the world uses GSM technology which is what AT&T uses and what Rogers/Fido use in Canada. My Canadian 3G iPhone worked fine in the UK on the Vodafone network last summer.

You do realize that Apple offered the iPhone to Verizon before AT&T, and Verizon turned them down.
