"I think the zune is a more feature rich device than the iPod family, but Apple has never been about cramming tons of features into one device. Apple is about great design, great interfaces and seamless operation. Sure you can listen to FM on a Zune or see what the other 10 people that own one are listening to, but on a lower res screen, chunky device that doesn't have the community or cross platform reach of the iPod.""Using the Zune is just about as seemless as using an ipod, it's very, very simple to use."..but the Zune isn't available for Macintosh, nor does it have the kind of third party ecosystem that iPod does, which prevents it from ever garnering the kind of market share that iPod has. iPod has cross-compatibility with XP and Vista versions of iTunes, which is a huge plus to it's market. Along with that, iPod has a massive ecosystem of third party accessories and peripherals that has become commonplace with iPod.What astounds me is the fact that even though Microsoft is a multi-billion dollar corporation, with lots of money spent in research and development, they refuse to simply port Zune utilities over to Macintosh. Apple on the other hand, while still making quite a bit of cash, doesn't have anywhere the money of Microsoft yet they FREELY distributes different copies of iTunes for both of Microsoft's operating systems. You do not need to own or purchase iPod in order to use iTunes or iTunes store.
