appleinsider.com — Apple on Tuesday quietly released its much-anticipate Apple TV "Take 2" software update, which introduces a brand new on-sreen interface and allows users to rent high definition movies directly from their widescreen TVs.

I hope it's just me, but the previews for the movies don't look that great. Can anyone confirm that the previews for HD movies is the same quality as the HD movie rentals?

Yeah, movies and tv shows from TPB are like half the whole point. If you're a mac user, try out VisualHub. Just drag .avi files in, it converts them to h.264 automatically, and will even auto-import to iTunes.

I would wait a few days before passing a judgment on the speed of the servers. The update was released today, and obviously the servers are overloaded because everyone (owning an Apple TV) is trying the new HD renting service at the same time.

I'm just glad 1080p video playback was added. The Apple TV finally grew a pair.

Sure, but HD video playback was limited to 720p. Now it's up to 1080p.

I just don't understand the Apple TV nay-sayers. At the risk of sounding like an advertisement, you just can't beat this thing. At $240 you get big screen HD photos, your music, YouTube, podcasts and now streaming movie rentals, TV shows and itunes music wrapped around a glorious interface. (Suprise - Vudu just dropped to $295; and you only get movie rentals.)Sure, there is room for improvement as with anything, but this thing is more than on the right track. Hopefully Apple will add hundreds/thousands of movies soon, along with longer song previews.PS - If you're complaining about the 20 minute update process, you're really stretching to find something to complain about. The update is totally automated and painless. (Or, are you using your Apple TV that much that you can't wait 20 minutes?)
