Hopefully, this rumor is true. I personally don't think Apple is overpriced. Higher priced? Yes, but not overpriced. Not when you consider what you get with the deal and how carefully Apple's designers and engineers pay attention to even the tiniest details. That's worth paying for, as far as I'm concerned. But there's also the software package, the way it works, security, component quality, etc. It's all worth the price to me. But not everyone sees it that way. Some people take that simplistic cheaper-is-cheaper approach to everything. Apple shouldn't ignore that as I suspect that accounts for most consumers.
I suppose it only makes sense - with the release of the Nano, a new Shuffle was just begging to be made. Still, too bad they already used the term "Nano" - what're you gonna call something smaller than Nano? Pico? Femto?Either way, I'm disappointed. I wanted a Mac Mini PVR.
Y'know, all this talk of how Apple MUST lower prices.... no one tells BMW that it MUST compete with Ford. Apple is as much about style and, yes, luxury as it is about computing. Not only will you get your work done, but you'll also enjoy the ride. Face it, Apple is all about UI and industrial design. A pizza box desktop or a low budget notebook kind of kills that.
"but I do get so tired of the fanboys making out like everything they make is perfect"Is your pissing and moaning any better? Maybe their Macs are perfect for them irrespective of what they are to you.
I used to cringe when folks asked me to recommend a laptop that cost less than $1,000. Granted, there have been laptops at that price for a few years now, but they were generally chunky cases stocked with generations-old components and low-resolution screens--not exactly anything I'd feel good about recommending for use as a primary computer. Imagine my surprise when computer manufacturers responded to my call for $1,000 laptops with some downright Crave-worthy systems. I expected to receive only 15.4-inch systems, because the larger case provides more room for engineers to work and keeps costs down; but I also found two 14.1-inch systems that didn't break our budget. I expected to receive cases stocked with previous-generation Pentium or Celeron CPUs; on the contrary, all but one of our review units included current-generation processors, graphics, and chipsets. I expected the cases to be leftovers from last year's crop of new laptops; instead, many in our roundup share the same case design as their more-expensive brethren. extra info:<a class="user" href="http://www.laptopcloseout.com/usa/store.html">http://www.laptopcloseout.com/usa/store.html</a><a class="user" href="http://sexygirlforum.com/cheapest-used-laptops.asp">http://sexygirlforum.com/cheapest-used-laptops.asp</a><a class="user" href="http://www.laptopical.com/cheap-hundred-dollar-laptops.html">http://www.laptopical.com/cheap-hundred-dollar-lap ...</a>

The cheaper iPod will probably be a 1GB nano, to replace the 1GB shuffle.
