It's pretty hard to define that as a monopoly. That's like saying Sony has a monopoly because I can't play a game made for the PS3 on the XBox.

Your question was actually the most interesting in the whole discussion. Wierd that you have no digs, I did my part.

I would have returned my WM6 phone if it didn't have voice dial. Not because it's otherwise crummy, but because dialing is one of those things a phone should do well and I wasn't happy at first with the idea of touching a screen to dial. Now I _never_ touch a screen to dial.. Locked or not, I press a button then I say out loud "dial 5551212" and since I have it on confirm (not required) I wait for it to read the number back to me, then I say "Yes" and it dials.

I would never buy a product I believed was "going to be better in the future but sucks now" especially when there is NO guarantee that it will be better.

I'm saying people buy the best relative to the cost... And let's face it, for the money, apple hasn't exactly provided the value or the market would show it. Sadly, Steve Jobs became a major stockholder in Disney recently I read (perhaps the biggest), and encouraged this new Rat-a-2e movie which I understand is a huge flop (You want proof? Go into any disney store in the mall and look at the displays that aren't exactly pushing merchandise for that movie, you might find one rat costume which has been there for a month and hasn't sold yet). Strangely, they're saying that in spite of the fact that "a million people" have probably seen it (just like the iphone).

That's an easy one... Until now, i don't think anyone in any industry thought people would spend $600 + a premium 2 year contract on what is essentially (after 2 year) a disposable phone with some bells and whistles which is not upgrade-able. Who knew? Well, I can almost guarantee now that apple has tested the waters, others will follow suit by putting in 'high end video cards' like apple did into their cell phones, and we all know this means that in the end, apple's phone is not the end all be all of phones.

"That's why Apple software is on 90% of desktop computers..."That's not fair! You get to post from the future!!! The rest of us are stuck in the present...
