appleinsider.com — Accompanying updates to Apple's line of desktops Tuesday is a new compact, wired keyboard with no numeric keypad. It's included with each new iMacs by default, but can be swapped out for one that does include a numeric keypad at no additional cost (when ordering online).

The reasons people are probably complaining is that if you do switch out the keyboard for the extended model then your order becomes a custom configuration. Apple's return policy on custom configurations is NO RETURNS. So you are stuck with what you get just because you changed the keyboard. They do the same if you buy extra RAM. Pretty stupid but people never read the fine print.

I have been wanting this keyboard for ages. I absolutely hate the numeric keypad. It forces the mouse way too far out to the right. It is even worse when you want to do detailed work on a pen tablet. In the past I have always had to buy odd compact keyboards with non-standard layouts that require too much muscle memory re-learning. By being the same as my laptop I get full usage of my desk and consistency with my laptop. This is a big win product for me and I really hope it takes off.

Well 100% of users are welcome to take the num pad version in fairness.

Yes there would not be a large difference in the price to make either.

I've been using my Macbook Pro as my main machine now for 2 years and when I use normal keyboards I always it Ctrl-arrow key and I wonder why it doesn't work.
