If you want tweaking and real 3rd party apps including open source and Java go for Symbian or WinCE running real smart phones.Or, if you want no limits, go for that Linux phone which will ship in months.

Seriously. If anything, take this as Apple just expanding business tentacles to cover the possibility of anyone wanting to make such a thing, and Apple will get more cash when someone wants to make it.
