You think guys watching the Super Bowl are the kind of fashion-conscious status-symbol types who will be looking for an expensive, high-tech phone? The Super Bowl commercial may come back when the iPhone does well enough and they open it up to different models. In this case, though, they're targetting the right crowd and letting it filter through the internet to the other tech-savvy sort who would want it right at launch.
iPhone... the wow starts now!I actually liked the way they went from landline to iPhone, because the interface of mobile phones up til iPhone has been useless. You would think after ALL these years, the big 3 would have figured it out. I am glad Apple has nailed it, set the benchmark for the rest of them, as they do. Just look at Vista... took MS a while(and LOTS of R&D $$$) to stick OSX in the 'MS Zerox' machine.;)
"because the interface of mobile phones up til iPhone has been useless."I don't know if I'd go so far as to say useless, I've actually been able to do useful things other than making and receiving calls on my phones in recent years. What the interfaces up until now have done is tease you with the idea of what could be possible, if only they didn't COMPLETELY f**k up the implementation. Especially smartphones. In the last several years I've used smartphones with PalmOS, Windows Mobile PocketPC, and Windows Mobile Smartphone. They're all have their advantages and disadvantages. They all also have just enough stupid design flaws to leave me constantly in the market for something else. Yes, I've looked at the Blackberry, it's never even tempted me to try it. Rather than saying "useless", what they leave me screaming is "You guys are so damn close, would somebody please just f**king get it right already"?Now, I'm the furthest thing in the world from an Apple fanboy. The last Apple product I purchased was a 1st gen iPod. But from what I saw in the keynote demonstration, the iPhone actually addresses many of my major irritations with all the other smartphones out there. Number one on that list is a REAL f**king web browser. Blazer on PalmOS just plain sucks. IE on Windows Smartphone Edition is better, but still chokes on a lot of pages, including Digg stories with a lot of comments. Number two is memory. I know people bitch about 8GB not being enough, but from my perspective, it's great. I got by fine with a 4GB SD card in my Treo, and I'm still managing comfortably with a 2GB microSD in my Blackjack. 8GB sounds awesome to me as a starting point for generation one. Without the expansion cards, most smartphones today still come in at the 32 to 64 MB mark. I don't get how people are bitching about an 8GB phone.Number three is screen size. The Treo screen was "almost" enough, but not quite. The Blackjack screen is WAY too small for a lot of tasks. What I want in a phone is: 1. A phone. 2. Usable e-mail, POP and IMAP. I don't need push, a 15 or 30 minute interval is fine for me when I'm not at the office. 3. A real web browser that will render normal web pages.Given the current info available, the iPhone seems to adress those issues, with some bonuses. The whole "built-in iPod" thing is a neat, but mostly useless bonus (for me, anyway. I do most of my music listening at home). And the eye candy? Yeah, I'll admit it. Given a choice between two products that will both meet my needs, I'll choose the "sexier" one every time. So, yeah, I'll be buying one. If it sucks, oh well, just one more item on my list of phones I tried to be happy with, but couldn't.

You DID get that minute of your life back. Unfortunately you wasted it by writing something stupid. Better luck next time!
