engadget.com — We've been down this path countless times, but rumors are once again heating up that Apple and Verizon are actively discussing the possibility of creating an iPhone to work on Big Red's airwaves, according to USA Today's infamous "people familiar with the situation." Could the iPhone come to Verizon Wireless next year?!

After they crippled my Razr's bluetooth never again. I wonder how Verizon will go about destroying the iphone like it has with every other phone it offers. Verizon go to hell cause its the only place your service belongs.

I don't get why you see this as inaccurate. Apple went with ATT exclusively because a) ATT was the only GSM game in town (US) at the time, and ATT bent over backward to accommodate the iPhone and some of it's features, notably the voicemail capabilities, and b) Apple was probably a little nervous about jumping into an arena they had no experience in, and having a partner to jump into bed with definitely made things easier. Now, though, iPhone is a certified hit, and Apple really has no need for ATT at all; Verizon, Sprint, and a dozen other smaller carriers would all sacrifice a CFO to get the iPhone. Apple has ATT by the balls, iPhone going to other carriers would kill ATT's subscription numbers (at least short term). If Apple does stay with ATT exclusively, it will be only because Apple got concessions from ATT such that ATT is basically paying Apple to keep the iPhone, or just out of a sense of loyalty on Apple's part.

Exactly. And though I'd rather not switch to AT&T, I think Verizon might soon lose the battle with me. Imagine if they'd taken the original offer...could go down as one of the biggest blunders in tech history.
