slashgear.com— The latest patent to emerge from Cupertino is what looks like a small-form-factor device predominantly taken up by a display, the edge bezel of which is touch and scroll sensitive. Looks kinda cool.

I could see myself liking this. Of course I'd have to try and see it on a real ipod first. The scrollwheel makes an ipod look complete, but I think there's gotta be a better way. It's not that comfortable to use when scrolling down long lists.
If this really IS a new iPod model, I doubt it would fly. The genius of the iPod is that fact that you can have all your movies, music, and pictures at your fingertip, not your fingertipS. Having an iPod that required the use of BOTH hands to operate would kill the iPod franchise.
I agree. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The Click-wheel is as established and user-friendly as the steering wheel in a car. Sure, joysticks are more modern than steering wheel and can easily be integrated into cars but does that represent an improvement? If Apple wants to mess with a (more or less..) perfected and intuitive (competition killing) navigation system, and replace it with something more complicated, demanding more commitment to memory, they're shooting themselves in the foot. This is as dumb as trying to redesign objects like a spoon or a pair of scissors who's basic function and design were fully developed centuries ago. The competition must be rubbing their hands at this extraordinary Apple blunder in progress.

I said this would be a good alternative to a touch sensitive screen on a story a few weeks back about the alleged "new" ipod.
