Wacom has built a very profitable business selling monitors that do both 1 & 2. Of course, I don't think even Apple could compete with Wacom in terms of quality and ease of use.

TBF, i bought my 15" MBP for £1000 over a year ago and they're still going for £850 on eBay today..depreciation is a really good reason to buy macs, they simply worth a f**k load more on the second-hand market. I tend to factor that into the cost, i'll sell my current hardware when i need to upgrade and use that to buy a new box.
