arstechnica.com — After it was suggested that pictures of Steve Jobs delivering the WWDC 2008 keynote speech show the Apple CEO looking a little peaked, Apple has commented on the matter, saying that Jobs recently had a "common bug." Whether that explanation will stop further speculation about Jobs' health is another question entirely.

jeeze.... Not like the guy is under any stress. Even with good diet and plenty of exercise, stress can run anyone down. Now people are going to think he's ill and the stock will drop and ....... -start stupid cycle till next press event or public appearance-

bulls**t. I've been vegetarian for 15 years, the last 7 of it vegan and i am in the best health of my life. If i had a protein and amino acid deficiency i would not run 30-50 miles a week, and row on the other days.

Jobs plays an important role, of course; but it's a role that could also be played be someone equally talented in the design sense with a great deal of drive and charisma. These people aren't a dime a dozen, but many suggest Jonathan Ive could handle it.The problem is going to be people's subconscious mental bias. There are some whose brains will "switch off" of Apple if Jobs leaves, thinking their products can't be any good anymore. As incredibly illogical as this is (Jobs isn't the one who creates or designs the products, he hypes them and critiques final-stage prototypes -- the real talent behind the products is still there), it's a subconscious thing that will happen to some no matter what. And because of that, the amplitude of the impact Jobs' leaving might have is unpredictable. It will be "bad", sure, but bad enough to level the company? Don't believe any analyst who claims to know.
