dailytech.com — Whining noises, AirPort connection issues, LCD flickering, and burning hot temperatures -- that's what you get being an early adopter of technology. According to this article on DailyTech though, Apple is releasing new MacBook Pro revisions that fixes the problems.

"Take it to an Apple store -- let them check it out. You can reserve an appointment by finding your nearest www.apple.com/retail store and using Concierge."Or take it to a local 3rd party Apple Authorized Service Provider and not have to worry about waiting in line at all!

My 6 month old 12" PB got stolen in early December, and I waited 3 months using a PB G3 without a trackpad/CD drive/battery etc. since the January announcement was anticipated. If you want to tlk about early adopters, my SN is W8608, and I ordered it within 24 hours of its announcement. Handsdown this is the best computer I have ever used. It does get hot when you use it for hours on your bed with very demanding software running, but im sitting with it in my lap now with no problem whatsoever, and have been doing so for a while. Even with the problems listed above, the only people i have heard complain about it are the ones who dont actually own the computer, and those who have had it replaced or looked at are HAPPY to wait and have a truly great computer. I have used a smathering of previous powerbooks as well as windows based laptops, and all have been as hot or hotter than this computer. And as always, Apple takes care of their customers, and if there is really a problem, it is fixed without question. So to all those Apple bashing windows fanboys out there, dont you complain about a product you dont have, and let the people who are ACTUALLY encountering the problems give us their thoughts. If they complain and denounce Apple, THEY are the ones who have ground to.With that having been said, here are my observations about my use of the 1st gen laptop:-Yes, it can sometimes get hot-The screen will knock your socks off, i was using a 17" PB simultaniously and the diference is stunning (If it takes a little more power to keep it this bright and crisp, its worth it)-The speed is indeed noticibly very faster : Even programs like Photoshop run faster in rosetta than natively on previous laptops (i cant wait till PS is in UB)-The MagSafe connecter is very cool, and prevents bent plugs-I was indeed a naysayer of the remote and FrontRow, but i use it probably about 50% of the time im on my laptop now-The power adapter is bigger, and in some cases you need to use the provided extension-Battery life is not bad at all, about 3 hours depending upon use. While i will say that considering my financial situation (im a broke ass student) i would have kept my old PB and saved 2K, i am more than happy with my MBP and heartily recommend it to anyone who is in the market. I will also say that if i had to make the decision between getting my MBP replaced 3 times and using a top of the line PC or older PowerBook, it would be worth it to have such a thoroughly great product. Cheers to those who have it, a word of congratulations to those who will soon, sorry to those who have had these problems, and bug off to those who dont know what they are talking about.

if you're paying 2k for a laptop, should you have to have a CD in the optical drive and do little things by yourself? Shouldn't it just work?

"A problem with a first-gen logic board is not a sign that Apple has, quite randomly, abandoned decades of design and engineering standards. It instead points to exactly what it seems to be - a troubled first-gen logic board that is limited to certain users and is being taken care of by the manufacturer. While I appreciate your excitement to jump on this and inflame it as proof that your "crappy Dell" (I agree) is fantastic, I'd beg to differ."Actually, I have a Sony Vaio, not a Dell, and I defy you to make come up with any proof that your buggy system somehow has better engineering that a Vaio. Especially since most of the features you list (not counting the quick disconnect power cord) came from the Vaio line to begin with. Also, this whole "this is a first gen product" crap is just stupid. EVERY new laptop has a new board layout! The fact that Apple engineers are apparently unable to make a stable notebook using the same Intel processors and chipsets everyone else uses, is not some indication of how bleeding edge it is to make an Intel notebook, it is an indication of how less that wonderful Apple engineers are. I am always hearing about the time and attention to detail Apple engineers spend designing new systems. What do you think all the other engineers do, sit around with a hot glue gun and some duct tape just randomly sticking parts together until a picture comes up on the screen?Everyone puts a lot of time and effort into designing their product, some are better at it than others, and as such, some products work better than others. Apple is not the only company on earth with engineers you know. Apple is, however, the only company being judged not on how well the system works, but own pretty the case is. The difference between Dell, Alienware, Sony, or any of the other PC manufacturers and Apple, is that when a new notebook come out from anyone but Apple, people expect it to work. Apple is the only company with a niche fanbase so fanatical that they will make excuses for the company. If someone bought a Dell, and it had even one of these problems (much less all of them), they would send it back, get a refund, and buy a notebook from some other manufacturer. As a side note, Dell would also probably be lambasted in the press, and all of you macboys would be jumping up and down like a bunch of angry monkeys saying that this was why you only bought Apple products, because they NEVER have problems like this.

Mine is perfect with the following specification : 2.0GHz, 1GB, 100GB 7200 rpm. I ordered it on Mar 6th. I wasn't very happy with the estimated delivery date on Apr 3 because I really wanted it for my birthday on Mar 29. But you know what? It came 5 days earlier right on my birthday :-D. I am lucky! :-D. I knew it, it was destiny haha. I love my MBP, I hug it twice a day! It does get hot though cause this baby knows that he is ;-).

I came across this article on the very day when I wrote my article on Why you shouldn't get MacBook Air. Since even then the battery is not user replaceable, I didn't remove the point of "Battery" in my posthttp://maheshexp.wordpress.com/2008/01/19/why-you- ...
