The enemy of enemy is my friend, maybe. But more likely it's just a good promotion for Apple products and Modest Mouse. Too small of a gig to matter.

Not really, Quicktime works fine on Windows, and various applications seem to work OK with Quicktime footage (I know PFTrack does, pretty sure After Effects does, and if all else fails, the Quicktime players works on Windows so you can reencode it to a more suitable format yourself)

If anyone is able to get these files working on a pc please let me know what codec to use. Quicktime keeps telling me it needs something extra to view them, but it won't specify. When I try to pull them into vegas 7, all I get is audio. VLC also only plays audio. Thanks for any help!

regarding the codec issue (and i am in no way trying to gloat), now u too can feel the frustration mac users have felt in past years with incompatible codecs.... tho its really not a problem anymore :)i figure this is a way to help restrict non apple/fcp users from entering...

For the record... i'm in the (slow and inefficient, but thats another story) process of downloading the files as I type this and plan on taking a stab at it. I dont see it as wasting time for a couple of reasons.First of all... those of us who do this type of work, do it, in a large part, because we enjoy it. Its not like we're punching numbers into a database, we are excercising a hobby, and in this contest we get the ability to better ourselves at what we do through practice. We get to edit with footage taken with a camera, setup, and chroma key resources that are not available to most of us... so thats nice. If we have good enough ideas, and make it high enough in the contest, we'd get an HD video camera, iMac, or iPod.... thats a plus. Its also one more thing we can add to our reels. You get more and more work in this type of business, the more experience you have, and the better you've made yourself through that experience. If I have the time and oppotunity to creeate a music video for a "famous band" when half of the grunt work (filming, and green screen setup) is already been done for me... with the possibility of winning something, while being able to tell friends / future clients, "Hey turn on VH1 and check out my video".... or at the very least, being able to add one more peice to my reel and having the extra practice....... I'm all for that. Sure, money would be nice, but its not like I would be cutting and shifting my schedule to make this thing.

The footage is ridiculous; how do they expect us to track the shots or even pull a decent matte from a 640x360 plate?

Ughhh....I am a bit angry at Steve Jobs right now. I want to win a Mac ( so I can be hip like that kid form the commercial ), but in order to win the Mac I have to have a Mac. Does this make sense to anyone?
