I've been waiting on buying a laptop for some time to see about the MBP refresh and this new laptop. I'm going to buy an Eee PC to be my ultraportable. When I buy a "real laptop" I want something with a discrete graphics card. If this laptop doesn't have a GeForce 8600 or something, I doubt it will be worth what Apple is selling it for, especially if they use the "pro" designation and pricing.

Apple needs a product to compete with Eee which is on pace to overtake MacBook worldwide sales by itself according to the latest Fortune magazine article piece. I think Asus caught a lot of pc companies off guard.

While that is a good idea, its something that Apple would never get into. Their whole thing is all about overall experience, and especially ease of use. Why would they mass market a bare bones machine?But yes, all of us geeks on digg would be all over that.

I think we're just going to see the MacBook updated to aluminum, with maybe some minor improvements. First the iMac, then the iPod. The only thing Apple still makes in that white or black plastic is the MacBook. They're going all aluminum with that, but I doubt we'll see radical changes.
