t3.co.uk — ...the fat free portable will use flash memory to start up in a jiffy, and run a cut down version of Apple?s OS X. We can see the appeal of a pint-sized Mac portable, possibly in tablet form. Its latest laptops are a little on the large side, and Apple?s decision to discontinue the 12-inch Powerbook left swathes of notebook fans in mourning

They could put phone features in this an have the iPhone. That'd be sweet!

Apple really should bring back a device like the Newton. That was so ahead of its time. Possible in the form of an UMPC (considering it's Intel's initiative) rather than a large tablet that is more annoying, at least i find them to be.

I would never buy a Mac or an iPod, because better machines, MP3 players and operating systems exist, but if Apple produced something like this and did it right, I would totally buy it, because the tablet market currently sucks, and I would love to have a good tablet.

It takes Flash memory YEARS to wear out. Modern Flash has what's called "write leveling" that splits up the writes across the whole device, so each individual piece gets worn out equally (and very slowly). Your basic consumer hard drive will fail before your flash wears out.

I'd rather see them release a reasonably priced minitower system. I don't need quad Xeon cores or FB-DIMM. I want a midrange Apple that doesn't include a screen, a single PCIe slot, enough room for 2 optical drives, and not priced over $1200. Apple makes some of the most stable and usable systems out there, but I think they are bilking their customers out of an extra $1200 with the Mac Pro.
