businessinsider.com — Well, that didn't take long. In a decade, Apple has gone from niche-market roadkill to a company whose growing dominance and competitive tactics in a booming market are thrilling investors, angering competitors, and drawing regulatory scrutiny.

I haven't done Mac development since CodeWarrior was the bomb for that platform, but after six years of Windows development, I can tell you that Microsoft is pretty damned restrictive.Actually, I can't be certain if they are being restrictive, secretive, or if they just don't know how a particular API is supposed to work.

When I was young I had an Apple IIe and all the computers in college were Mackintosh. That is until Apple locked out any external development and Microsoft came out with Windows (where the developers went). Apple is doing the same thing this time (try to get something on the itunes store for an iPhone), and it has nothing to do with Microsoft.

LOL. Just goes to show you different experiences give us different opinions on these news articles. I don't think I could ever go back to PC. Now, if Apple were to get terrible customer service and start creating bad products, I'd consider a switch to something else. Right now, though, I'm having terrific luck with it and plan to stick to it. I have not had one crash since I bought my iMac and, later, Macbook, a year ago and I don't have all those problems with corrupted files. I'm sorry you had trouble with the Mac, though. It stinks when your equipment doesn't work - especially in business.

I'm meant the iPod Touch and the iPhone are running the same OS (obviously).

As stated above they weren't actually comparing Microsoft and Apple in that way. They were comparing them in terms of rapid growth and popularity.Microsoft pretty much made the PC popular while Apple have done it for other devices. You could compare Microsoft to Google in the same way.

"Until the OS becomes more like Windows it is doomed to have a smaller percentage of the desktop market,"If by doomed you mean amassing more cash on hand then Microsoft (over 30 billion), then yes they're "doomed". Apple isnt in the business of marketshare percentage, its in the business of making money. And thats something they do amazingly well.

lol it's always fun to watch the Apple fans whine when they're faced with the possibility that Apple is in fact nothing but a corporation and doesn't care about them.
