yahoo.businessweek.com — Another interesting figure to come out of the conference call was that 50% of customers polled at Apple's retail stores described themselves as 'new to the Mac,' indicating a surge in interest from people more accustomed to using computers running Microsoft's Windows operating system.

I've used windows based PCs since the 3.1 days. When it came time to buy a new laptop, I got a MacBook. I've been lusting over Apple computers since OS X came out. With the transition to the faster Intel chips, the entire Mac package is so compelling I couldn't resist anymore. Like I told my wife after I'd had my MacBook for a week... I will never buy another Windows-based computer as long as Apple is selling computers. The grass truely is greener on the other side. I will get an iMac or mini around Christmas to replace my last Windows machine (which will become a Ubuntu box). Even my Mac-hating wife had admitted that my MacBook is pretty sweet, and after she saw it run Parallels Desktop, she's considering a Mac for her next computer. Long live Apple.

vermifax >> well said.thindifferent>> not true. I know many iPod users who don't own a computer. They have friends who do, and transfer songs to and from their iPod via their friends. In my circle of tech-guru friends, very few own an iPod that was not a gift.

i work on a military base, which is exclusively Windows and Dells. Since I brought my Mac in 03/05, four people that I work with have brought macs for the first time. I work on a small base with less then 20 people. Macs marketshare is defeintly growing

I'd agree with you, except I tried it. I set up a dual boot on my laptop. Of course I have a broadcom card in it, and its the 4318 at that. To this day I still can't connect to my own network, only to the neighbour's unencrypted network. My next OS experiment is gunna be OS X....I am getting so tired of XP and its quirks
