orbitcast.com — Apple has filed for a patent to capture AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio and WiFi broadcasts onto an iPod, identify the song artist/title, and give to option to buy it. This is the best indication yet that a Satellite Radio/iPod will happen.

Since sattelite radio isn't available in many places outside of the US, what is the point of purchasing an iPod with (probably expensive) capabilities that one cannot use?

Why should I have to pay money to record something off of the radio?

This sounds like Tivo, only portable and for music, not TV.Dumb question: Recording a song off the radio is 100% legal (time shifting, iirc). Why would a user buy a song that was just recorded? I can only thing of two reasons: sound quality and editing. Meanwhile, the song you just bought is DRMed.

This is VERY SLIM evidence of a satellite/iPod. First, Apple would probably not go to market without the patent being granted. Second, a patent would PREVENT OTHERS from developing a similar device, even if Apple had no such plans of its own. Remember, a patent does not grant the right to produce. A patent only blocks others from producing.

Apple should just make deals with these huge conglomerate radio companies like they did with these huge conglomerate TV & Record companies & just allow me to get regular radio in my itunes already. They really should of did that a long time ago. Don't give me a crappy ad on radio transmitter for my ipod either. Besides that I think Apple has learned by Creatives mistake to implement radio recording features will not go unnoticed. So I say no radio recording here.
