macrumors.com — Yesterday, Apple sent out short notices to their iTunes partners who provide the music content to the iTunes store. The notices let partners know that they would soon be able to offer DRM-free music and DRM-free music videos to customers through iTunes.

Interesting. My buddy (who works for one of the largest labels) told me that they deliver full quality tracks to Apple and have from the beginning and that Apple is the one that compresses them.

I don't know. I listen to albums, not songs. If you are one of those people who want to listen to The Fray because it was on Grey's Anatomy, or need to get your fix of the crappy pop-band that played on GMA this morning, why don't you just sign up for a subscription service? "Getting stuck" with a whole album just means that you don't care too much for the band other than for that one catchy song. Personally, I like having a huge wall full of CDs. I like opening a CD and looking through the liner notes. Digital downloads, aside from being more expensive than CDs, aren't as satisfying.

i think it's good that they are trying to go drm free, but this seems like it will also bring about the headache of people downloading a couple of tunes only to find out that some you can do whatever you want with, and that others are still chained to the system

@fashiontrotPlease tell us more about what Amazon has up their sleeves. I've been waiting to hear more about this, liken when it's going to happen, and other details.

Uninformed people only care and find out about DRM when it's a problem.
