thinksecret.com — Select members of the industry and media received invitations Tuesday from Apple to a special event taking place one week from today at the California Theater in San Jose. The event, Think Secret has learned, will not usher in the much rumored video iPod but rather new PowerBook and Power Mac systems.

is there any reason why an x86 mac can't come out next week?

Merle, doesn't make sense. Steve Jobs owns Pixar. He is the movie industry to a certain extent. I like Hawks explanation the best. However, the curtain imagery doesn't have to mean movies or video or Tivo boxes. It could mean redesigned Powerbooks with built-in video. All I do know is that there is no way Apple releases a near or distant competitor that steals away from Nano sales.I would love to buy feature films from iTunes for $9.99* and have them play on my 17" Powerbook and have that rumoured Airport Express device that could wirelessly feed movies to your TV from your computer. I would totally be all over that like white on rice. Bye, bye Netflix. DRM would allow a burned DVD and unlimited transfer from computer to TV. Gosh that would be sweet. It would also be sweet to transfer your homemade movies, photos, questionable downloaded material, etc...

According to the BBC, its a video iPod. They'll be hosting an apple event in London on the 12th related to the announcement of the device, and how BBC content will be available on the iTunes Movie store ..

I say iTunes Movie Store, but instead of a video iPod, it will be a video Airport Express. That would be the most killer combination ever!

@hawks5999THAT IS EXACTLY IT!!!! To think that this merely a powerbook upgrade is f**king retarded!!! I mean what the f**k, if jobs did an event every time there was an upgrade for a computer he would have one every week for the mac mini. As i said in another article on digg and as hawks5999 states perfectly, Jobs will release the iTunes movie store, people will want to carry movies with them, and Jobs will release the iPod video possibly early next year at an event such as the Macworld expo. I defiantly do not thing that the ipod video will come out next week, it would smash the crap out of ipod nano sales and would be a very big mistake.Oh and by the way, isn't the 17 inch display on the 17 inch powerbook already wide screen format?
