Hold up there IDuggg, lets save that kind of talk for something worthy of a "f**k", like Scientology because they are a cult that brain washes it members into thinking no matter what they do, it is all good all while taking the money out of their wallets.... oh wait...

sabinJul 28, 2010
If you don't like how Apple does business hen don't give them your business, it's as simple as that. If they want to censor their bookstore then they are going to do just that, and unlike some other companies, they don't give a flying f**k what you think about it. Apple is the Disney World of computing, its awesome and lots of fun but sometimes you just want to see a couple of strippers dancing around on stage. There are no strippers at Disney World. Well, now I know who the one guy (so far) who dugg my previous comment down is. Did the truth sting that bad?
nouveaugosseJul 28, 2010
You're only getting dug down cause the U.S.A. and Digg are full of little girls. It's exactly like going to Disney and bitching about the lack strip clubs, and hey that ticket price is too steep. No one held a gun to these imbeciles heads to buy this hunk of garbage, so caveat emptor. Apple will only change their policies when consumers make there opinions known with their wallets instead of their mouths.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Steve could be out raping children and gutting kittens, and you'd defend it.

@ Sabin:
"Apple is the Disney World of computing, its awesome and lots of fun but sometimes you just want to see a couple of strippers dancing around on stage. There are no strippers at Disney World."
What? That doesn't even make sense. In what way is Apple the "Disney World of computing"? And why would you go to Disney World looking for strippers? In fact, what has strippers got to do with this?
@ nouveaugosse:
"It's exactly like going to Disney and bitching about the lack strip clubs, and hey that ticket price is too steep."
First off, everyone bitches about steep prices for a lot of things, so that point is... well, pointless. Secondly, how is censoring the best sellers' list EXACTLY like going to Disney and bitching about the lack of strip clubs? A more appropriate analogy for Disney/strip clubs would be someone buying an iPad and bitching about the lack of a dildo to rape themselves in the butt i.e. iPads and dildos have nothing to do with each other, EXACTLY like Disney and strip clubs have nothing to do with each other.
LosAlamosLabsJul 28, 2010
If it was a Glenn Beck book being censored off the Bestseller list, most diggers would approve.

And in come the fanboys to slobber all over Jobs' corporate boner while at the same time pretending that their beloved company has not become the thing they most despise.
It would be humorous if it weren't so sad.

Comment on Page: "Dear iSheep...vote with your wallet. Bitching and yelling on the internet isn't fixing anything. If you don't support what Apple does, don't buy their products."
Agreed.

And these are the guys responsible for the 1984 commercial?! The critics are right, WE are supposed to be the brain-dead people watching Jobs on the screen...
Does that make Google the chick with the sledgehammer?

I bought the book just because this is stupid s**t from apple... again. Getting sick of it.
pirategaspardJul 28, 2010
sick of the book already? judging by your username I'd say you probably wore yourself out over the past 2 hours eh?
bill679Jul 28, 2010
I how the word "Censor" gets thrown around. If Macy's doesn't sell leather chaps next to the dildo display is that a bad thing?
If you want to read erotic literature that badly, just install the Kindle app on the iPad/iPhone. Problem solved.
skippydoorknobJul 28, 2010
The books are still available for sale in the iBooks store. They're just not shown on the bestseller list anymore.
miligoJul 28, 2010
The book has not been removed, it is still available. It is just not on the top charts list anymore.
tgc1Jul 28, 2010
This only goes on to confirm my suspicions that these devices are going to end up making people beholden to others for their choice and availability of reading material. You know what I like about REAL books? You don't have to ask anyone's permission to read them. You can read about ANYTHING. And nobody can prevent you from doing so.
These platforms, as closed as they are, allow s**t like this to happen. I don't read erotic stories, but maybe one day I want to. You think i'd EVER let a company tell me what I can and cannot read? I'd just as soon tell them to stick their Ipad up their f**king asses before I handed control of my reading material over to them.
People better wise up. It wasn't too long ago I read this future story about all these sorts of devices taking over printed media and then finding that companies would then require license to READ things. Naturally, some people try to get around that requirement by sharing with their friends, but it is soon revealed that by doing so they leave themselves open to prosecution for unauthorized reading / learning. Meaning at some point only the privileged will be able to read, and the peasants will again be uneducated and stupid... RIPE for exploitation.

Wow, you really got worked up about this. Let's be clear though, this is not censorship. They took the books off the best sellers lists, that's it. Even if they stopped selling the books, that STILL wouldn't be censorship. Using that logic, every book store in the world should be required to sell these books or they ar nazis.
It would be censorship if I tried to load a content on my iPad (via ePub, text, PDF, etc.) and I couldn't not view the content. That is not the case, and it is not remotely the case.
bill679Jul 28, 2010
No one is burning books here, tgc. If you want to read something you can find it the "old fashioned way" - i.e. at a BOOKSTORE, or even perhaps a library. Although I doubt a community library would carry this book either....hmm. Maybe you've got something there...
Cue the stormtroopers!
bookantJul 28, 2010
Ahhh, but REAL bookstores have a long rich history of standing up for intellectual freedom and against censorship. Take as one of many, many possible examples the countless bookstores in America and around the world that refused to pull "The Satanic Verses" from their shelves even when extremists started threatening bookstores who carried it with violence . . .
What we're seeing here is just an extention of a process that's been going on since the end of the '80s and the rise of corporate chain bookselling. Instead of thousands of independantly run bookstores we've got Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon, and Apple . . . . a handful guys at the top of a handful of mega-corporations have control over not only what books the public have access to but ultimately even to dictate what books will and will not get published.

Quintessential example of why I don't use Apple products. (ok I have an iPod hooked to my car radio, but thats IT! Damn you Steve for making a hypocrite out of me!)

As some previous comments have alluded to, Apple clearly needs to evolve this filtering into user-selectable parental controls, just like for web content. The iTunes store platform has been around long enough, they should have anticipated this long before they started selling books. Get it together, Apple!
skippydoorknobJul 28, 2010
The books are still available in the iBooks store.

This isn't too shocking, Steve Jobs was the guy that told a customer to go buy another phone like a droid if they want porn on it.

So don't use the Apple book store. Problem solved.
I don't like a lot of things that Apple does so guess what...I don't buy any of their products.

The cleaned-up list horrifies me even more. A large number of Apple fans must love crappy third-grade-level writing.
