macrumors.com— iLounge and Macworld are reporting that Apple has banned the sale of film-based screen protectors for its iPhone, iPod, and Mac lines in its retail stores. But why?

My 1st gen ipod touch looked like it was run over on the back but the screen is like day #1.The simple fact is you don't need a screen protector and it looks worse than any normal use ever will. Don't go jogging with it in the same pocket as your keys, 14 bottle caps and enough change to buy lunch and it will continue to not look like s**t.http://imgur.com/TPB32.jpgStill cleans up like newhttp://imgur.com/XHiYn.jpgNot so much.
I have the original iPhone bought since day one. The glass does not have even a single minor scratch. NONE!Did you actually ever try to scratch glass surface with anything? It is very hard and nearly unscrachable. The only thing that I know can scratch it that I can access in principle are diamonds. Well, I do not have a habit of having bunch of diamonds in my pocket pressed across the iPhone screen. Do you?
Isn't this the same old story from Apple? I'm not fanboying it up here, but Apple trolls the crap out of people. It's their right. They are trying to make money, right? So...when they take a product like that off the shelves, it undoubtedly benefits them."OH s**t. I just dropped my brand new iProduct...If only I had a screen protector for it, but I had to order mine and it hasn't come yet..guess I'll just send it in."ka-ching-ka-ching-ka-ching-ka-ching-ka-ching-ka-ching-ka-ching-ka-ching....
@Ardeet - I'm in Australia too, but you missed the point. It's not whether second hand markets exist. It's whether the manufacturers want them to exist.Oh, and why are you spelling jail as gaol. Australian's don't tend to use the Olde English spelling.
It's for the same reason Apple does not allow customer comments on its store products. A company looks so much better and bug free when you keep your customers quiet.

It also interferes with the anti-oil coating on the 3GS. Every phone I see with a protector looks dull and smudgy.

Ipod and Iphone in the same pocket? You must have some big ass pockets...

I certainly wouldn't be buying a new iPhone just because the screen got a scratch.

My original iPhone was covered in scratches within the first few weeks/months. Glass surface? Try a key, idiot.
