Apple is doing the same $hit MSFT did : keep the nice APIs secret. Limit the developers. Come Android, bitchslab this Apple bitch. She's like a beautiful & super nasty woman, both attractive and repulsive at the same time.
Battery life is the sole reason for this type of thing being banned. Apple is clearly working on a special extended battery or removable battery in the next iPhone. Background processes do cut down battery life allot.
@frosted: Ditch the old iPhone's apps and OS? Yeah, good luck with that. I'm sure there wouldn't be any developer backlash at all over thousands of apps suddenly being ditched and no longer profitable.

don't you have to, you know, have multiple processes running (e.g. apps in the background) to have interprocess communication?
