macrumors.com — Over the past 24 hours, Apple has begun to approve 3rd party web browsing applications for the iPhone. A number of new web browsing apps have suddenly appeared with original submission dates ranging as far back as October.

The safari interface built into the firmware doesn't let you select text, doesn't provide any way to pop to the address bar without scrolling to the top of the page, which on a long page takes for ever if you are at the bottom, among various other annoyances. There is a lot of room for improvement from a user interaction perspective even if it is the same rendering engine. So now some people will make a few bucks while apple looks along and takes notes about what they need to change in their app.

If I can get chrome for my ipod touch before i can get it for my powerbook, I'll be pissed. Well pissed in that way that I won't really do anything about it, or probably even care.

Steve Jobs is sick so other Apple execs are sneaking in business decisions that aren't tyrannical.

When I said I don't understand I was being literal. My knowledge of browsers on the iPhone is quite limited. I was hoping someone would explain in a nutshell. Or just google it for me.

Correction, Safari

Alan, perhaps your retarded-ness got in the way. I don't want an out of context quote about how MacParrot doesn't like some Microsoft product. I want you to try and disprove the facts he gave about them and their anti-competitive nature. Saying "apple does it too" doesn't count. Also, if you look to the next thread you'll see MacParrot criticizing Apple. Makes it very hard for him to be a fan-boy.

Please take your circle-jerk somewhere else Alan.

my list of annoyances:*ahem*flash, copy and paste, the lack of microphone support for 1st gen ipod touches (although this could be hardware related...), the f**king annoying resolution glitch thing that happens when you save pictures off safari into your photos (I WANT IN-FOCUS TITTIES!), the apps in the app store limited to 2nd generation ipod touches, like it makes a difference. some other things too. I could come back to the list, but I probably wont.

the side opposite that of the button doesn't activate the accelerometer. so, if you hold it landscape-wise, and then with the button side up, like....uh.... [*] so? yeah. it won't rotate away from landscape.

You're obviously not a web designer. If you were you'd know that WE STICK TO STANDARDS, its the BROWERS that don't follow them properly (i.e., IE)
