Apple does NOT innovate anymore... people just arent aware of the alternatives. All non-tech people I know call my mp3 player an ipod. Its just become trendy to be seen with an ipod and the white headphones.
Well, anti-trust laws aren't torts...so tort reform won't help. The real issue here isn't that the Apple iPod is dominating the market. It is the fact that you have to use iTunes to operate your iPod, and music you buy of iTMS is only usable on the iPod.That sounds like a "restraint of trade" to me. That's like buying a CD from the store manufactured by Sony and only being able to listen to it on a Sony CD player.
@diggnationdevonyour comparison to windows and IE was utterly retarded; why? firefox, opera, Netscape (if that still exists). got anything that can play apple acc format? no.someone said the money is in the ipod, and that is perfectly true. it is a great mp3 player sales show that. apple itunes is just being pulled around by it, its a good delivery system but the lock into using only ipod and ipod using only itunes sounds like what apple did with there computers from day one. mmm why did PC become the majority share, they licensed out. its just this time apple actually has a good product by comparison, unlike the original mac's by comparison to the original pc's. (ok apple fanboys feel free to defend your god).@elranzerWow great comparison too, I'm pretty sure Sony allows 3rd party companies to sell games for there system, xbox too. so where is that 3rd party music store that works so well with the ipod?Pure and simple, apple from day one has always done this with everything they make, they refuse simple interoperability. My favorite example is the Airport Express, it will only play music from itunes over your network.
