torrentfreak.com — Anti-piracy group BREIN is well known in the BitTorrent community, having already managed to shut down hundreds of small sites. The Dutch outfit is currently being sued by a group of Usenet enthusiasts after it called their site illegal. Undeterred, it’s now flexing its muscles to get NZB sites closed down too.

The usenet honeymoon and safe haven is over?

In a way, yes. f**k the NZB sites, as far as I'm concerned they are bringing too much attention to usenet trying to make money off of something that should be free. People should be able to learn how to use usenet properly, if it gets made too easy then there will be too much attention - and if it gets popular than it gets on the radar. With certain newsreaders and their certain awesome service you don't even NEED nzb sites. I have been using usenet for discussions and bins since the early 90s and find it to be one f the best things about the net - it has been around forever and is utilized for a lot of other things besides binaries (most of which aren't copyrighted works anyway).

What's USENET??? Oh yeah ... it was that nice place to go before The U.S. threw our "child porn" hissy-fit and all of the ISPs locked us out of ALL newsgroups.
