xs4all.nl — This script creates an imbalance in the conversation between the marketer and the consumer. It is this imbalance, most of all, that makes telemarketing successful. The EGBG Counterscript attempts to redress that balance.

One of the best scripts . . . * Seinfeld (to telemarketer): I can't talk right now. Why don't you give me your home number, and I'll call you back later. * Telemarketer: I'm afraid we can't do that. * Seinfeld: Oh, I guess you don't want people calling you and bugging you at home. * Telemarketer: Right. * Seinfeld: Well now you know how I feel.

There are plenty of countries who have opt-in legislation and it isn't worth the paper it was signed into law on, good luck trying to PROVE where they are calling from or where the email comes from. There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

I've got this awesome feature on my phone now called "Caller ID". It tells me who's calling when the phone rings, so if I don't recognize the number (or if it says "number blocked"), I simply don't answer. So far, it's kept me from having to talk to a telemarketer for a couple of years. :)

Not necessarily true, a telemarketer can hang-up on you if they feel they are being harrassed, badgered or in anyway feel uncomfortable. And coming up with reasons that fit into making someone feel uncomfortable is very easy to find so basically a telemarketer can hang-up on you at anypoint in a conversation, as long as they can come up with a reason for feeling uncomfortable.

I'm actually in a battle with Telemarketers right now and I even posted a story to digg about it:<a class="user" href="http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Me_vs_Telemarketers">http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Me_vs_Telemarketers</a>Long story short, these guys called me 9 times even after repeatedly being asked to be put on their "Do Not Call" list. So I'm getting even.Tod.
