engadget.com — In Wilson, NC, residents, upset with their choices in regards to internet and cable decided create their own network and charge only enough to cover the costs. Now, TWC is lobbying against the service claiming they can't compete. Need any more evidence to support Time Warner's suckiness?

I have never known Internet Nebraska to offer the 16-20 Megabit Down/1 Megabit Up connection. I just checked their website and no such speed exists. In fact I just did a quick price comparison myself to verify and you get the exact same speeds going with Internet Nebraska as you do with Time Warner for the exact same price. $49.99/month for 10MB down/1MB up. Both ISPs also provide a standard service at 39.99/month for 7down/512up. So....I wish I knew where you got your information from. Lying doesn't make friends.

Phalanxia, please give me ONE example of a non-government-created free-market monopoly.

the government is involved due to lack of a competitive market, barriers to entry, etc. It wasn't a free market, and price/performance/service reflected that. So, in the face of failing 'market' forces, the locality elected to provide a communal solution. sure, the monopoly may have been government created (in order to get any sort of consistency in the first place) but using the current state of affairs (and not what we wished had happened) as the basis for current decision, this seems like a wise choice. When the market will not provide in a competitive fashion, time to step in with a social/gov't solution.

local municipalities do not represent a federal socialistic structure. plus people don't HAVE to have it and it's not out of taxes, you still pay to have it; it's just nonprofit.
