odesk.com — The first Android-powered phone snuck out with nowhere near the fanfare of the iPhone release and it shows in its application demand. Preceding its release, there was literally no demand for application development, unlike there was with the iPhone.

You cannot replace the sexiness of iPhone with G1.

The single reason the iphone is so successful is because of apple's attention to every single detail of the user interface. Everything from switching pages to moving icons around is incredibly well thought out and executed very very well. Other platforms just dont seem to have that level of attention to detail, which is a shame.

Google tried but it just couldn't compete with something that has that little "i" in front of it

I don't really care. I didn't get a G1 because I wanted it to be more popular than the iPhone. I bought it because I compared the two, and the freedom of the Android OS was better for me. I understand why popularity matters a little, because popularity determines development, but really, I think more people are too concerned about "my phone is more popular so it's cooler."Then again, I use Linux, and I'm used to being in the smaller userbase.

Well, let's be honest with everyone on this site - your cell phone is part of your wardrobe!

Android hasnt really got internationnal yet, and it doesnt run on more than 2 devices for the moment.

This is exactly why the comparison is completely unfair. Most iPhone apps are utterly useless other than aesthetics or stupid games like dice rolling. Most of the apps for Android that I've seen over noticible functionality enhancements, and things that use all possible process on the device - including allowing multiple applications to work with and alongside eachother.Sure, the actual number difference is huge, but I'm sure the ratio of useless:useful is largely in favor of Android.

BOLLOCKS! As usual. Those of you who are old enough will remember what a TOTAL disaster Apple had with Newton..........people talk like Apple came 'out of the blue' with this. I nearly chocked when the guy presented its touch screen as an innovation when my US Robotics Palm Pilot had that and a thousand better applications 10 years earlier! What Apple have is a big nob head following among the middle classes...........unlike Google Apply DO EVIL very much Microsoft style....their harwazre for instance is no more expensive to manufacture than PC but they 'Rip Off' with a 'business model' baloney that works a treat with those who salve theirselves they made the right decision when they were ripped 30% more than necessary. What Thursday when Palm release the Nova in vegas.............it will be FAR superior but get a total slagging in the press because iPhone is just a BIG MONEY MAKING TOY FOR GIRLS n GAYS :D
