hollywoodreporter.com — Nearly 6 months after his death, Ledger's performance as the Joker helped power "The Dark Knight" to a best-ever $18.5 million opening-night take. It was the first in a cavalcade of domestic BO records shattered by a film that has survived a host of challenges to become the highest-grossing Warners release of all time ($489.4 million and counting)

Here is a simple formula for making a box office smash like The Dark Knight.Hire a really talented actor to play the best character in that movie then cap his ass about three months before the movie comes out.The Dark Knight was good but flawed in a lot of ways. It was definitely no Star Wars or Titanic as far as special effects, quality and story. Without Ledgers death this movie would have matched Iron Man and that's about it.And i even saw it at IMax

Did you really just compare Dark Knight to Titanic? Titanic had some of the worst acting I ever saw in my life. Leonardo Dicrapio couldn't act his way out a paper bag ( I did like him in other movies I.E. Aviator). Sure it was based on a true story but still did that 3 hour bore fest really deserve to make that much money.

i watched it a lot because of the schedules my friends had. we couldnt all go see it at once, and I got no fewer than 9 rain checks when the original time I went to see it (the 12:05) was canceled. not to mention no other movies peaked my interest at the time. (I ended up seeing it 4 times for a total of $7.50 spent.)

I quote:"The Dark Knight was good but flawed in a lot of ways. It was definitely no Star Wars or Titanic as far as special effects, quality and story."You didn't mention box office prowess, money made or anything like that in that sentence. Now about the things you've mentioned:Special effects? Exactly what would you have wanted to see in Dark Knight? Lightsabers? Animated characters? Ships breaking in two? Hope not.Quality? Quality of what? Did you even see Star Wars? (original 3 piece crap included)Story? Now you are really making me laugh.Please...
