All I can say is, why Michael Moore? There are 2000 people digging this, and if Digg users want to make it out that they are actually making a difference why don't they all work on their own documentary? It'd finally be something that Digg could genuinely say they've helped. Write an open paper and once it's done get a director for it.

Although we can't see it completely now, the relevance and necessity of major media outlets is fading away. Moore could do this easily, assuming he was willing to cut a few corners (technically, not content wise) and/or perhaps seek non-corporate funding. Distribution can be done for pennies per DVD now, or through Google Video or iTunes (if you're seeking some kind of profit).I produced my first documentary last year and have probably received close to 10,000 views on YouTube, Archive.org, Google Video, public access TV, and by giving away DVDs from the trunk of my car. For promotion, you announce your project on a few relevant websites and setup a nice site for the film. If people would just learn to use the technology we have in front of us media gatekeepers like CNN could be dead in 10 years. Besides, I'd wager to bet those born in the past 30 years are spending much more time on the web than watching TV or reading newspapers. Basically, if you have a big mouth, interesting ideas, and time to actually see something through, there's no reason your message can't reach millions.

Free market doesn't mean the medical industry can do anything they want to us. Free market (as oposed to a regulated market), is less government barriers for competition in the market. The more barriers to entry, the less businesses we will have and the less choices we have as consumers, and the more those few businesses will grow in size and become more dangerous to consumers requiring more government regulation turning the medical industry just an extension of the government. When people have a choice, they can choose to buy products from businesses that are responsible (that they trust) and who's products are cheaper, these restraints mean that any business in the medical industry that tries to do something bad to us will have consequences.
