opentheblob.com— AMD and Intel both now support open-source video drivers and release their programming specifications to the OSS community. Let's get NVIDIA to do this too!

To be honest, what's the point? nVidias own Linux drivers work extremely well and they're freely available. I think this is just complaining about something for the sake of it. This "tainted" business is just being taken to ridiculous lengths now.Still, if they do release open drivers, the "purists" will find something else to bitch about. Here's a suggestion: Life is too short and there's more important things to worry about than whether the graphics driver is closed or not. Grow up FFS.
Er...no. The old ATI open source drivers do 3D and AIGLX on old cards and 2D on slightly newer ones. The *new* ATI open source drivers came with full specs and do 3D.
Er....I think...someone else said it's only 3D specs, but there were new ATI drivers recently that actually worked for 3D with AIGLX, but I'm not 100% sure if they're open or not.
They could be like Linksys routers and put all the magic in the driver while all the hardware's the same... well, Linksys put all the hardware the same and then different firmware to determine if you paid $60 or $200 for a router.
f**k you nvidia. I bough a new pc around nvidia tech to learn later fullscreen video overlay is is removed and I now have an ati card on a nvidia chipset. f**k you to hell I am going to file a class action suit against your ass you nvidia f**kers.
Sorry, but its not they who taint your kernel. Its you.Its you who download their driver, agree to its license, install it, and the module that taints the kernel gets inserted with your consent and by your will. You are not obligated to use their drivers ot their hardware at all, do you not agree?Neither are they obligated to provide any support for linux at all, yet they do so.
It is undesputable that open sourcing the drivers can't do any bad to the drivers themselves. But it would disclose some of the NVIDIA's secret technologies, and so it could potentially hurt them (NVIDIA), or at least they think so. They probably fear that some their competitor (like ATI) could gain advantage by copying some very clever idea from them.
Actually, in your case you are both the "villian" (since you commit the "crime") and the supposed "victim" (since you complain about your tainted kernel). So the analogy would be: you commit suicide by shooting yourself with a gun and then you blame the gun vendor for it. :)

Because it's not finished yet. You fail at patience.

I still think there is considerable difference between linux and windows even with the NVIDIA's closed source module inserted in the kernel

When you shoot someone with a gun you cant blame the gun vendor for the crime. The responsibility for the shooting is yours only
