movieretriever.com — Paul Newman has died of cancer at the age of 83 at his home in Westport, Connecticut. Many, many outlets have already given the career of Paul Newman its due, but I want to start with one thing that a lot of them seem to have missed ? there will never be another actor like him.

No, just because he died doesn't make him a better actor........ but the quality of the work he put out for decades doesn't make him a better actor, it makes him one of a handful of TRUE icons. He wasn't just a better actor, he was a Superior actor! Just because the jackasses that write about the industry wrongly apply that label to others doesn't make it any less true of Paul Newman. To use your examples: Brando? Had some fantastic performances, but he didn't sustain that as consistently for as long. Ledger? Died before he could amass the body of Quality work, we won't ever know what he could have been, but we do know that he doesn't touch the status that Paul Newman achieved. To borrow a line from one of his most memorable, "Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand."

Looking for help from the Digg community: does anyone know how much has Paul donated to charities? ..and what those charities were? I think it would be really neat to see them all in one place.
