I was wondering the same thing. Some of the shots inside of the school look very similar to locations in the film.

Google Centralia, PA. There's an underground coal fire there that started 40 years ago and it's still burning today.

Smacks of urban legend? Russia Collapsed, this story is probably true of many places in Russia. A country like Russia is so large, smaller towns would not be able to get support.
