I know it's meant as a joke, "as miserable as the rest of us," but think about what you're saying. "I think we should let gays get married because it's just AWFUL isn't it. I mean, yeah, a lot of gay people have to worry about hate crimes, hate speech, constant discrimination, a generally higher suicide rate, depression, but, MARRIAGE, that's just the worst."
You can't be living in San Francisco then. If you walk through the wrong neighborhood, you'll see rainbow flags flying and gay men kissing each other in almost every street corner.
Gay people should have the right to become married as long as marriage has any legal significance. If it would be only a religious thing, I think it would be fair to have the church decide. But as long as general society has special rules for married couples, those rules should be available for same-sex couples.
