scienceblogs.com — No, not by radical Muslims but the U.S military. Here is an email that was forwarded from a soldier in Iraq whose friend is being harassed at another base for organizing a meeting of atheists on the base. The email was originally sent to Kathleen Johnson, the military director for American Atheists, who is currently serving in Iraq herself.

I totally agree with you.I don't think there would be less wars or suffering in the world without religion. I think bad people will find a way to do bad things regardless of the society they are born into. I am an Atheist because I personally do not believe that there is a God and even if there is, I do not believe it will resemble anything close to what is described in the Bible, Koran, Torah. Not to mention religious teachings from ancient Greece, Egypt, Native America, etc. I would also be extremely disappointed if I found out that everything I believed was wrong (Not that this can''t still happen). So I try to learn as much as possible the truth, and this is where it has brought me.

People suck. Hobbes says so.

Bird watching is actually a bad analogy.A more appropriate one would have christians being the snargle watchers, who watch mysteious creatures who don't actually exist, and then insist loudly that you're not looking properly when you glance around and inform them that there are no snargles around.

I love how you assh**es read my argument and see the word god, so I must believe in god. I truly know few people more secular than me, which really illustrates how ignorant and f**king stupid you all are. Seriously, just skipping over my argument and looking for points to attack me on makes you no better than Bill O' Reily, or any of those other dicks. The worst part of all this? YOU MADE NO f**kING POINT AND YET YOU STILL HAVE +4 DIGGS. i hate this site.

It was a s**tty attempt at humor, and i wanted to see if other diggers -after having read all the replies to a post that garnered a lot of responses- forgot what the original post was without rereading. Obviously diggers didn't smoke as much pot as me when they were young. For the record i agree with max420.

why kill an ideology? Does that not destroy freedom of thought? Shouldn't I be allowed to think anyway I want? Believe in what I want without fearing ridicule? You guys like to say that all religious people are this and that without realizing that you are creating stereotypes from the misdeeds of a few. You obviously do not grasp the idea that is being presented here. That max420 is creating the same bias and bigotry that people and society has fought against for years. Where is your tolerance? Where is your open mind to MY beliefs as I have kept an open mind to yours. Never once have I engaged in the practice of atheist-bashing. I believe that it is counter-productive to society. How are you supposed to get us to tolerate alternate lifestyles when you do not respect our beliefs.assh**e

How you treat other human beings has nothing to do with what you believe about god/gods. If it did, we would have no basis for calling people of differing beliefs accountable to common like do not murder, steal, or rape. If you care about other people, you don't need the threat of punishment to make you treat them well. If you do not care about other people, you will not care about them even if a god orders you to and threatens you with thunderbolts.

Hold assh**es responsible for acting like assh**es. Don't get sidetracked into attacking the beliefs they quote to justify their behavior. If these "evangelical Christians" had been born into a society that was predominantly Hindu, they would be evangelical Hindus saying "my group is best, join my group or any abuse I give you is justified."

Do you sleep all day on Sunday or what? There are 10's of thousands of Churches where people gather every Sunday and anyone can come, believer or not.

However, there are some here that think that planting seeds is some form of coercion or "forcing' your beliefs.
