nytimes.com — Challenges are rare in the military, which depends on obedience and hierarchy. Yet the scene at Fort Knox reflected a brewing conflict between the Army?s junior and senior officer corps ? lieutenants and captains on one hand, generals on the other.

Anyone disrespecting a uniformed member of the military should have their teeth kicked in. It's okay to be against the war and the things that are being done in the war but it is NOT okay to disrespect the men and women who follow the orders of the ELECTED government. If you don't like what the military is doing then you need to remember that it is doing it at the behest of the people that YOU elected.Stand tall RedX, most Americans support you and the few who don't need to pull their head out of their ass.

And I have no respect for you because you would never do what is nessecary to win a war.And Red, that sucks. I hope the bad looks and comments and stuff at least don't get as bad as during Vietnam.

If you really cared about the troops then you would want them to be here. I have noticed that youdidn't said s**t about how this administration treated our troops at Walter Reed.We need healthcare for all of our citizens. This has nothing to do with with tags, except our social security numbers and the ones they give us to wear around our necks as troops.

Au contraire, our Constitution explicitely gives specific governmental positions the constitutional responsibility just so that uneducated people like you can't make such silly statements. Those who wrote that most basic democratic work wanted to make war an unlikelyhood by controlling the President. Only Congress was allowed to declare it. (Blew that one!) Yes, the President was to act as Commander and Chief, but only with the advice of his generals and Secretary of Defense, and the Congress was once again given the power over the purse strings so that a Commander in Chief would never be unchecked if he went a little war crazy. Steps one and two have gone wild and it doesn't look as though congress will ever act to end it. But we definitely have very specific people we can and should blame this debacle upon!

Its a good read, despite the biases of the guy who submitted it. Junior officers should question orders when they don't make sense. If someone has a better way to do business, regarless of rank, they should speak up. Generals are not infalliable. Moreso, Generals SHOULD listen to their subordinates when they have a good idea. One Note: the article mentions COL McMaster as the commander in charge of the operation in Tal Afar. Currently McMaster is working directly for Petraeus on his staff. Petraeus is a good officer and he is listening to the right people, and ignoring the wrong ones.

Where have you been for the last 5 years? The NYT has been cheerleading the war on Iraq as much as Fox ´News´.
