Whole Foods (279 stores in 38 states and Washington, D.C.) - We figured this natural-foods chain would make the list, but who knew it would hands-down top it? ?It?s the Rolls-Royce of healthy eating,? says Kate Geagan, a nutritionist in Park City, Utah, and one of our judges.

I was surprised to see it so low on the list. It's the best anywhere IMO.

that is not really a health food store, it is more of a gourmet foods store.

I'm far more interested in the ones it HAS happened to and at what rate, I'd say that should be a pretty important consideration in deciding the 10 healthiest supermarkets. It doesn't matter how healthy the food you sell is if your retail locations are rat infested and your sanitary practices are lacking.

Tell that to all the dumbasses that found out that organic bananas are no different than regular bananas... banananananananana... i hate that word...

I think "healthy" is relative to yourself or the world. Organic is great, but if it takes 70cal (petrol) to get me 10cal of salad from California, then I think I am making the planet less healthy as a result. My understanding is that if the entire world would to convert to entirely Organic agriculture, there would soon be famine and mass starvation.Buried because the story doesn't load in a new tab.

Agreed, between Trader Joe's and Harris Teeter I've got no reason to set foot in a Whole Foods.
