engadget.com — Say hello to the Amazon Kindle, their take on a book reader device that comes equipped with a 6-inch 800 x 600 display (which we can only assume is e-ink), 256MB internal storage, and a smallish two-thumb keyboard.

Even if it is a prototype, it's an ugly POS. If they really want to make a cool e-Book reader, design it to look like one of those electronic pads from Star Trek.

Why does an e-book reader need a keyboard?

Think I'll wait for Apple to design an e-book reader. I might actually want to be seen using it then.

After the travesty that is Unbox, I have no faith in Amazon when it comes to delivering digital information...

I'd preferhttps://www.irexshop.com/product_info.php?currency=USD&cPath=22&products_id=28no DRM.Just cut the price down to a quarter of the current $810.84, and I'll buy one.WiFi, LAN, future MP3 support, MMC/SD, CF. Sheesh.

It actually might be white, the picture colour just looks a little off. Never know, you might be correct.

By the looks of the thickness and the screen...that is NOT "eInk".The whole point of e ink is for hi-resolution viewing. That screen is definitely not higher res than 72/96 dpi. Not to mention the brightness, or lack of.

I think the EVDO support hints that this will be much more than just an eBook reader. I expect they already have a much better design - but wrapped it in this awful 70's Sci-Fi prop package just to send it to the FCC for certicifcation of the radio components.I expect it is PDA-like product but with a MUCH larger screen suitable for reading eBooks like a human. Hence the need for a Keyboard and EVDO.

Title search? Text search? Annotations and note taking? Downloadable crossword puzzles and word games? With EV-DO data the device could even be used for e-mail, web browsing, and instant messaging for all we know.
