engadget.com — We just got some blurry photos and specs for the new, decidedly more newspaper- and college textbook-friendly Amazon Kindle DX. Here's what we know: it's got a 9.7-inch display (as opposed to the current six-inch unit), a long-requested built-in PDF reader, and the ability to add annotations in addition to notes and highlights.

$360.00 for a tablet that will not read a PDF file. Good god this country has turned into a country of Ophra idiots."Sigh, whenever I feel blue, I just go out and buy myself an island." SNL I believe.

So instead of doing one task well, you make your phone do lots of things badly? :) Sometimes, a single purpose device is the best answer. You don't put a PA system in which can also make coffee...

I'd like to know the resolution of that screen. I'm not convinced it would be good enough to view charts/graphs in my textbooks.

I bought a 17" laptop years ago and I loved it. I used to ride around on my bike and carry that laptop around in my backpack to various coffee shops and work on web design projects. I don't understand why everyone would have a problem with carrying one around. It's really not that heavy or bulky and the increase in screen size is definitely worth it. Battery life was never an issue because I always plugged in.What does it weigh, like 8.5 lbs? Is there really much of a difference between that and 6 lbs? I don't think so.

I don't know if they still do, but my kindle 1 came with a nice cover that gave it the whole opening a book, right/left cover dynamic.
