amazon.com — Band names and album titles of popular emotional rock groups have mysteriously changed on Amazon.com's databases. (Other noticeable changed besides the linked group are Panic! at the Disco and the All-American Rejects.) What does this mean for Amazon's security?

Except these weren't music elitists, or they would have chosen bands that people actually listen to, aside from afi.

Inc3pt is right. This genre pigeonholing is pointless. According to the definitions of emo that I've read here, you could argue that The Clash is emo. It's seems that when it comes to any rock genre, the main definition is "I can't define it, but I know it if I hear it". Jeez, you all sound like a bunch of geeks arguing whether StarWars is in the science fiction or fantasy genre.

You don't have to agree with a band's image / views / opinions / whatever to like their music. The idea of a certain image being required to fit in with a "scene" and like certain music is ridiculous. If you like the music, that's all that matters. Besides that, there are quite a few bands who get lumped into the "emo" category who don't even buy into the whole image thing... or really the sound for that matter. Of course, these bands rarely get much attention because they're not as marketable.Brand New, Thrice, mewithoutYou... three bands who I've heard the "emo" label thrown on that definitely do not deserve it... and they're touring together this fall. Musical elitists should check it out.
